About

Max Pruett is an award-winning baritone singer, composer and arranger based in the Los Angeles area. Known for his versatility as a musician, he has not limited himself to any one musical niche.

Max is a graduate of Chapman University, where he performed in a variety of solo and ensemble settings, ranging from opera to jazz standards to commercial music. Though his degree is in performance, he has also developed a strong passion and expertise in writing for voices through his experiences in music classes and the Chapman a cappella community. He now writes contemporary choral music and performs as a choral artist with voices/LA.

Max’s journey as a composer/arranger began when he arranged “The Parting Glass” to be performed by himself and three of his friends at his final high school choir concert. He then joined SoundCheck, an all-gender a cappella group at Chapman University and began arranging for the group in Fall 2022, drawing inspiration from various Chapman a cappella arrangers that came before him. His work as an arranger and music director for the group was an integral part of SoundCheck’s musical growth, taking them to ICCA Semifinals in 2024 and 2025, which would be the group’s strongest competition seasons since 2016. This past ICCA season, Max received the Outstanding Arrangement award for a chart of “Vortex” by Lizzy McAlpine that he penned for SoundCheck’s set that year, titled i’ll be kinder to myself. Since then, he has published a handful of his arrangements (which can be browsed here) and is now being commissioned to write for groups in Southern California and beyond.
